2. Pre-Requisites

As established in the curriculum, there is no prerequisite that could limit the access of any student to this subject. However, it would be desirable for students to have the previous basic grammatical knowledge provided by having studied English in secondary education, although this is not a sine qua non condition for opting for this subject.

3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

This subject, English I, is part of Module II of the Degree study plan and consists of 18 ECTS Credits (distributed among the subjects English I, II and III) of Basic Training (FB). This module has been designed so that students acquire basic skills in English, in such a way that it serves as an instrument that provides them with an added capacity to access information on the rest of the subjects that make up this degree by facilitating, not only the consultation of bibliographic directories and electronic resources of all kinds, but also the participation in mobility programs, both Erasmus and Leonardo, whatever their destination within the agreements established by the UCLM. With the integration of this Module II, Article 4.3 of the Agreement of the Commission for the Reform of Degrees and Study Plans of the UCLM is fulfilled, since the intensification in a foreign language (English) will allow the student to acquire sufficient skills in oral expression and written, as well as in the specific language of the humanistic field, even giving them the possibility of preparing and defending their Final Degree Project in this language and of carrying out external practices (optional) in the European context.

The inter and multidisciplinary nature of the new Degree in Humanities: Cultural History, since it is a compendium of Cultural Sciences, places it in an unbeatable starting point to prepare future professionals in the new fields opened up in this field. moment in the field of Culture and Communication and, especially, in the field of interpretation and dissemination of cultural heritage and teaching. For which linguistic knowledge in the modern language, English, becomes essential in a globalized world where English is the lingua franca of the world of business, scientific communication, tourism and the Internet.

This BA in Humanities: Cultural History provides a solid education, built around different knowledge and methods -history, arts, literature, geography, social anthropology, living languages (English), communication and technologies-, that is, a multidisciplinarity that is at the origin of the Human Sciences and Culture, and which is linked to the technological, computer and modern language training necessary today, in such a way that it allows an easy and convenient reorientation towards other disciplines and tools to achieve a professional training in which the possession of a complete base of general culture, a critical spirit, a coordinated and comprehensive vision of all disciplines and multi-purpose training -both theoretical and practical- in the new information and communication technologies and in languages, allowing professional activities in multiple and differentiated realities. In addition, its own objectives are justified by the academic criteria of the tenured professor, by virtue of the Principle of Academic Freedom, established by the Spanish Constitution of 1978, in its Title I, Chapter 2, Section 1, Article 20 and Letter C.

The Degree in Humanities: Cultural History provides a solid education, built around different knowledge and methods –history, arts, literature, geography, social anthropology, law, political science, international economics, sociology, living languages (English), communication and technologies, ...- that is, a multidisciplinarity that is at the origin of the Human Sciences and Culture, and that is linked to the technological, computer and modern language training necessary today, in such a way that allows an easy and convenient reorientation towards other disciplines and tools to achieve professional training in which the possession of a complete base of sociological, political science, and general humanistic culture, a critical spirit, a coordinated and comprehensive vision of all disciplines and a multipurpose training -both theoretical and practical- in the new information and communication technologies and in languages, allowing professional activities in multiple and differentiated realities. ”.

In addition, its contents are endorsed by the academic criteria of the subject professor, by virtue of the Principle of Academic Freedom established by the Spanish Constitution, in its Title I, Chapter 2, Section 1, Art. 20 and letter c.

Final test 30.00% 30.00% It is compulsory to pass this global assessment test with an average numerical grade of 5 (C) in order to make the application of the rest of the percentages effective.
Oral presentations assessment 20.00% 20.00% All students must take a test or oral activity in class to assess their ability to express themselves in a foreign language.
Theoretical papers assessment 20.00% 20.00% All students must submit a written work to assess their ability to write. At the beginning of the course, students will be provided with "assessment criteria notes" in which the work delivery dates will be set. These apostilles will also be published on the virtual campus.
Assessment of active participation 20.00% 20.00% This percentage will include the evaluation of the continuous evaluation of the student through their participation and use in the classroom and through the correction of the daily tasks that have been assigned.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    Students must be assessed on the five English language skills (listening, speaking, interacting, writing and reading), as well as their theoretical and practical knowledge of cultural history, art, culture, and literature in the English language.
    Any question scored with less than two points will mean that the exam will automatically be graded as "failed".
    In no case is the possibility of regulated blended teaching and evaluation considered as such.
  • Non-continuous evaluation:
    Those students who have problems or doubts about their participation in the continuous assessment process should contact the head teacher of the subject.
    If a student were caught cheating or plagiarizing, she would get a final grade of 'Fail 0'.
    The planning and evaluation may be modified due to unforeseen causes.
