2. Pre-Requisites

To be able to register in Practicum II, students must have passed Practicum I. 

3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

Practicum II continues the training initiated in Practicum I, the knowledge of the classroom and the educational centre and its context as reference frameworks to understand the teaching practice. This course, the last of the Syllabus of the Degree in Primary Education, is aimed at putting into practice their basic training in teaching and specific area requirements acquired in the different curricular areas. Moreover, the teaching practicum of the 4th grade will permit the acquisition of knowledge, information and abilities which are necessary for students’ career.

1.3.II.04 Relate theory and practice to the real setting of the classroom and the centre.

1.3.II.07 Regulate interaction and communication processes in groups of 6-to-12-year-old pupils in Primary Education.

CG01 Know the curricular areas of Primary Education, the interdisciplinary relationship between them, the evaluation criteria and didactic knowledge about the corresponding teaching and learning procedures.

CG03 Effectively deal with language learning in multicultural and plurilingual contexts. Encourage pupils to read and critically assess texts from different scientific and cultural domains within the school curriculum.

5. Objectives or Learning Outcomes
Course learning outcomes
Description
Make improvements to the organisation and teaching-learning processes in the classroom and centre.
Know how to gather information about the characteristics of the class-group and their participation in different activities.
Know how to relate theory learned in the Education Faculty with the reality observed in the educational centre and the classroom.
Evaluate and describe one¿s own knowledge acquired for their own teaching practice.
Know how to analyse and assess the organisation of the centre to make the most of the possibilities of the centre for learning, participation and relationships with the families.
Know how to describe and assess the organisation of the classroom (class-group, curricular planning, timing and space) considering the possibilities for pupils' learning.
Identify and describe the different procedures of the centre to promote participation with the different sectors of the education community and social environment.
Know how to describe the context of the centre (village, city or neighbourhood) and link it to the teaching practice.
Participate in the teaching practice and know how to design a unit of work with all the key elements of lesson planning.

8. Evaluation criteria and Grading System

Practicum performance 50.00% 0.00% ECI Order 3857/2007, of December 27, determines that the Practicum will be face-to-face and will be supervised by university professors and primary school teachers accredited as internship tutors. Therefore, there is no other modality than face-to-face. Attendance, face-to-face at school (25 hours per week), to the preparatory phase at the Faculty of Education and to seminars convened by the Faculty tutor is mandatory and non-retrievable.
Practicum and practical activities reports assessment 50.00% 0.00% Writing practicum report. Students' final written report about their school placement.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    Marking:

    - 50% of the mark by the school tutor-teacher.
    - 50% of the mark by the tutor-lecturer of the Faculty of Education (including the tutoring sessions, school visits, practicum report).

    Those students who obtain less than a 4 in the school evaluation report must repeat their placement.

    Those students who obtain less than a 4 to the tutor-lecturer of the Faculty of Education will have the opportunity to resubmit the report in the extraordinary call with the due modifications under the tutor's of the Faculty of Education advice.
    Anyway, to pass the course, the average must be equal to or greater than 5.

    Attendance at seminars convened by the Faculty tutor for orientation and monitoring of the Practicum are mandatory. Consequently, those students who, without justification, do not attend them, will be evaluated as "Absent".

    Important remarks: For the report, the quality of the language employed will be considered. In fact, for every mistake of those included in the list "mistakes to avoid" (see Moodle), the student will miss 0.25 points in the corresponding activity up to a maximum of 3 points (12 mistakes).

  • Non-continuous evaluation:
    As established in the description above, there is no other modality than face-to-face.

Specifications for the resit/retake exam:
The evaluation criteria of the extraordinary examination session will be the same of the ordinary examination session.
