2. Pre-Requisites

To be able to register in Practicum I, students must have passed at least 81 ECTS in their training in teaching and specific area requirements.

3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

This course unit contributes to the initial training of Primary Education Teachers since it is the first approach to school life and it provides students with knowledge
about the school centre and its context as reference frameworks to understand the teaching practice.
The course unit Practicum I allows students to relate the theory learnt in other course units of the Syllabus of the Degree in Primary Education to the reality of the
classroom and the centre, which permits the acquisition of knowledge, information, abilities and competences which are necessary for their career.

students' school placement in non-university teaching centres,
their Practicum is face-to-face, including the necessary
adjustments due to COVID-19, and will be tutored by university
lecturers and Primary Education teachers accredited as
placement tutors.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    Marking:
    - 50% of the mark by the school tutor-teacher.
    - 50% of the mark by the tutor-lecturer of the Faculty of Education (including the tutoring sessions, school visits, practicum report).
    Those students who obtain less than a 4 in the school evaluation report must repeat their placement.
    Those students who obtain less than a 4 corresponding to the tutor-lecturer of the Faculty of Education will have the opportunity to resubmit the report in the extraordinary examination session with the due modifications under the tutor's of the Faculty of Education advice.
    Anyway, to pass the course, the average must be equal to or greater than 5.
    Important remarks: For the report, the quality of the language employed will be considered. In fact, for every mistake of those included in the list "mistakes to
    avoid" (see Moodle), the student will miss .25 points in the corresponding activity up to a maximum of 3 points (12 mistakes).
    If new regulations or instructions applicable to UCLM, especially derived from COVID-19, were passed during the practicum periods, the eGuides will be amended accordingly, even gathering the Practicum Committee if necessary.

  • Non-continuous evaluation:
    The Practicum must be onsite, wiith the due modifications to adjust to the situation triggered by COVID-19, as established by Order ECI 3854/2007, of 27th December, and as stated in the abovementioned descriptions.

Specifications for the resit/retake exam:
The evaluation criteria of the extraordinary examination session will be the same of the ordinary examination session.
Specifications for the second resit / retake exam:
The evaluation criteria of the special or supplementary examination session will be the same of the ordinary examination session.
