2. Pre-Requisites

No prerequisites are established, although it is recommended that the student has taken the subjects: Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Fundamentals of Nursing. You should also be familiar with the tools of the Moodle platform.

3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

This subject, a compulsory part of the UCLM Nursing Degree Study Plan, is one of those that make up the Nursing Care in Adult and Elderly Nursing subject within the Nursing Science Module.

The purpose of the course is to prepare students to provide nursing care in any of its fields of action (hospital, community, outpatient and home) to adult individuals with health problems, based on principles of bioethics and human sciences, integrating knowledge, skills and attitudes related to promotion, prevention, treatment, recovery, rehabilitation, projecting care to the individual and the family.

Medical-Surgical Nursing which, in this Study Plan, is divided into four subjects (Medical-Surgical Nursing 1, 2, 3 and 4) allows the student to acquire the skills to provide care for adults with health alterations that affect their structure and function, and require medical or surgical treatment to restore their normal functioning or alleviate the effects of the disease.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    The student must take a final exam (theoretical-practical contents of the program) according to the official examination schedule approved by the Center Board.
    The evaluation of the activity "laboratory practices" will be made with tests of continuous evaluation during the course of the same ones and in the final test. Students who are repeating the subject, it is clarified that the grades of the workshops, seminars and / or laboratory practices of the previous course will be kept if the grade obtained is equal to or higher than 5, provided that the contents are similar.

Specifications for the resit/retake exam:
In this convocation the student will have to be examined of the or of the blocks of the subject not approved in the previous academic year, that are divided in two final tests (theoretical part and practical part of laboratory). In order to do so, it is compulsory to have attended the "laboratory practices" activity during the previous academic year.
Specifications for the second resit / retake exam:
It will be carried out:
1.- Written test of multiple-choice items and resolution of practical-clinical case and/or development questions.
2.- Simulated practical exam on the nursing procedures performed.
