3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession
The subject provides a synthetic and contextualized knowledge of Medieval History, between the fourth and the fifteenth centuries. It will be focused on the main characteristics that defined the politics, society, economy and culture of Europe and the Mediterranean. Two basic purposes are sought: firstly, more specific, to ensure that students understand some of the historical foundations of our present world; secondly, more general, to help that these students get a solid general and multidisciplinary training in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences.

| To know the cultural trasformation processes, from the Prehistory to the present, and to study their spatial and temporal contexts. | |

| To asimilate the meaning of the key concepts to understand the Universal History (Hominisation, Palaeolithic and Neolithic, Ancient East, Greco-Roman World, Feudalism, Late Middle Ages, Humanism and Renaissance, Reformation and Counter Reformation, Age of Enlightenment, Contemporary revolutions, Imperialism, Totalitarism, World wars, ¿). | |
| To acquire the specific knowledge about Universal History, from the origin of the human species to the present, in its different aspects (biological, political, social, economic and cultural). | |
| To know the main bibliography, scientific publications and authors, study and research centres and specialized reviews about the five historical periods of Universal History (Prehistory, Ancient history, Medieval history, Modern history and Contemporary history). | |
