3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

The Fundamentals of Podiatry subject introduces the student to the field of general podiatric intervention, laying the foundations of knowledge that will be analyzed throughout the study plan, mainly referring to the specific knowledge required for the exercise of Podiatry in its different acting movements.

It is offered within the compulsory training module, being transversally related to the different subjects that make up the Degree. In particular, with all those related to the subjects of the modules Biomechanics and General Podiatry, Podiatric Pathology and Physical and Pharmacological Orthopedic Treatments and Chiropodology and Podiatric Surgery.

CE04 Know the anatomical and functional concept of the disease and diseases classification. Describe the pathology of different organs and systems. Medical semiology. Dermatology. CE08 Know the Spanish Health System and the basic aspects related to the management of health services, mainly those related to podiatric care and rehabilitation
CE09 Acquire the concept of health and disease. Know the determinants of health in the population. Develop the factors that influence the health-disease phenomenon. Design of prevention protocols and their practical application. Public health. Concept, method and use of epidemiology.
CE10 Acquire teamwork skills as a unit in which professionals and other personnel related to prevention, diagnostic evaluation and podiatric treatment are structured in a uni or multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary way.
CE13 Identify and integrate the professional practice from the respect to the autonomy of the patient; describe the elements of the clinical documentation management with special attention to confidentiality aspects; identify the basic criteria of clinical management, health economics and efficient use of resources.
CE16 Know the Basics of Podiatry. Ergonomics. History of the profession and conceptual framework. Profession concept Technical nomenclature used in health sciences. Acquire capacity in the clinical management of chiropody services.
GC01 Know and apply the theoretical and methodological foundations of Podiatry.
GC03 Obtain the capacity, skill and ability necessary to diagnose, prescribe, indicate, perform and/or develop and evaluate any type of podiatric, orthopodological, chiropodological, surgical, physical, pharmacological, preventive and/or educational treatment, based on the clinical history.
GC04 Acquire adequate clinical experience in each of the podiatric contents, carried out in accrediting centers for the university training of Podiatry, promoting the interrelation and effective communication with patients, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team.
GC06 Acquire the ability to perform a clinical management focused on the patient, in the health economy and the efficient use of health resources, as well as in the effective management of clinical documentation, with special attention to confidentiality.
GC08 Acquire work skills in educational and research environments, health care, as well as in uniprofessional and multi-professional teams. Advise in the development and implementation of care and education policies on topics related to prevention and podiatric assistance.
GC10 Identify that the exercise of the profession is based on the respect for the patient's autonomy, beliefs, culture, genetic, demographic and sociodemographic determinants, applying the principles of social justice and understanding the ethical implications in a global context in transformation.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    The current rating system will be applied at all times; Currently, UCLM student evaluation regulations, approved on May 28, 2014.
    The Global evaluation is carried out based on the weighted average of the evaluation systems (Final test and practices). The student must achieve 40% of the final test.
  • Non-continuous evaluation:
    The current rating system will be applied at all times; Currently, UCLM student evaluation regulations, approved on May 28, 2014.
    The Global evaluation will be carried out based on the weighted average of the evaluation systems (Final test and practices). The student must achieve 40% of each system.

Specifications for the resit/retake exam:
The assessment of the practices, which have been passed by the student up to a maximum of two academic courses from the current course, will be kept, provided that the training activities are not modified.
