2. Pre-Requisites

It is advisable to have passed the subjects of Psychology and Crime, Introduction to Criminal Law, and Criminal Procedure.

3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

Victimology refers to the scientific discipline derived from Criminology that studies crime victims in the various stages of victimization. This discipline is essential both in the study and in the treatment of victims and relatives of all types of crimes. The main object of study of this discipline is the victim and his/her characteristics, as well as his/her relationship with the offender and his/her role within the criminal situation. In the professional field of application, it is essential to know the role of the victim in the criminal process, the process of victimization of a person, as well as which are the most effective for their subsequent protection.

Description
To acquire up-to-date knowledge of Victimology as a discipline, its theories and tools for the study of the processes involved in victimisation.
To know the actions taken for the comprehensive care of victims of different crimes.
To acquire knowledge about theories of victimisation.
To know the individual and social effects and consequences of victimisation.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    The final exam will be made up of a 40-question PEM-type exam (questions with multiple choice answers) that will compute 60% of the final grade.
    To pass the subject, the student must pass both blocks independently; in such a way that only when the theoretical part has been passed will the practical part be added, and it must also be passed.
    The final grade will correspond to the sum of the scores of the different tests weighted by their global value (% of the global grade).
  • Non-continuous evaluation:
    The student may be evaluated through the non-continuous modality provided that he/she has not participated during the period of teaching in assessable activities that together represent at least 50% of the total evaluation of the subject.
    In the non-continuous evaluation, the theoretical block will compute 70% of the final grade and the practical block 30% of the final grade. Students who choose this form of assessment must take the final exam of the practical block (30%).
    To pass the course, the student must pass both blocks independently; in such a way that only when the theoretical part has been passed will the practical part be added, and it must also be passed.
    The final grade will correspond to the sum of the scores of the different tests weighted by their global value (% of the global grade).
