Victimology refers to the scientific discipline derived from Criminology that studies crime victims in the various stages of victimization. This discipline is essential both in the study and in the treatment of victims and relatives of all types of crimes. The main object of study of this discipline is the victim and his/her characteristics, as well as his/her relationship with the offender and his/her role within the criminal situation. In the professional field of application, it is essential to know the role of the victim in the criminal process, the process of victimization of a person, as well as which are the most effective for their subsequent protection.
