3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

This course takes part of the subject "Social control" which aims to provide a deep knowledge of the criminal justice system and the functioning of the different institutions of social control. The aim of this course is to learn about prisons and community measures. Also, the role of the criminologist in these institutions will be identified.

5. Objectives or Learning Outcomes
Course learning outcomes
Description
To identify the role of the criminologist in each of the institutions of formal control and to differentiate them from those of other professionals.
To be able to critically assess arguments based on scientific criteria in the forensic criminological field.
To know about the functioning of prisons and prison life, about the possibilities of reintegration of offenders once they enter prison and about the effects of imprisonment on inmates.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    To pass the course, the students must complete the training tasks planned to be carried out in the classroom and pass a final exam. The minimum mark to pass the evaluable activities will be 4. The course will only be considered passed if the student has obtained at least a 5 out of 10 in the final mark.
  • Non-continuous evaluation:
    Students will be assessed with a final exam.

Specifications for the resit/retake exam:
Students will be assessed with a final exam.
Specifications for the second resit / retake exam:
The assessment will consist of a final examination which may be written or oral.
