2. Pre-Requisites

The Undergraduate Dissertation (in Spanish TFG) will only be presented when it is proven that the student has passed all the courses of the Syllabus of the Degree and, thus, has all the necessary credits per year to obtain the Degree except the ones assigned to the mentioned Undergraduate Dissertation; however, the student can start elaborating it before.

3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29th October, establishes that to obtain a Degree every student must pass the Undergraduate Dissertation (in Spanish TFG), which will consist in an original and unpublished paper aimed at evaluating the competences of the Degree and related to any of the aspects developed along the Degree studies. This paper will be about a specific content of the Curriculum of Primary Education or a proposal-implementation for the fields of psychology, sociology, pedagogy or the specific teaching or areas of the Degree. Under the Verification Report of the Degrees of Primary and Early Childhood Education and the regulations for the elaboration and presentation of the Undergraduate Dissertation at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, the TFG will comply with the following general terms and conditions:

  1. The TFG in the Syllabi of the Degrees in Primary and Early Childhood Education is included within Module 3, called “Undergraduate Dissertation”, in which all the areas of the Degree are involved and which consists of just a 6-credit, compulsory course in the second term at the 4th grade.
  2. The TFG is an original project, report or study carried out by the student supervised by one or more tutors where the contents, abilities and competences acquired during the Degree must be developed.
  3. The quality, content and length of the TFG must be in proportion to the assigned 6 ECTS and, thus, must be planned according to the hours the student needs to finalize it (self-study: 5 credits; tutoring sessions: 1 credit; total: 150 hours).
  4. The project must be done individually.
  5. Students are entitled to two examination sessions to present their TFG in an academic year according to the regulations of the UCLM. The abovementioned sessions will be chosen from four different calls: November, March, June or July.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS, REMARKS

The Undergraduate Dissertation (in Spanish TFG) is a written paper that must be publicly defended before an examining board. The Departments in charge of teaching at the Faculty of Education will propose lines of work or research which students will choose according to their interests.

Those lines or topics of research will be published at the beginning of the course.

The student may propose a Undergraduate Dissertation not considered in the offer as long as the tutor approves of it and the Undergraduate Dissertation Committee (CATFG) passes this.

The TFG will be included in one of the following modalities:

a) Professional: project, plan or programme including a practical design in detail or a complete and contextualised implementation or intervention proposal.

b) Academic: a monographic or grounded study or essay, including a theoretical, critical or comparative analysis of a topic which has not been developed enough in previous studies, as the base of a detailed presentation or argumentation.

c) Research initiation: research projects applying basic research methodologies and techniques.

The design and development of the undergraduate dissertation must comply with Amendment No 2 to the Collaboration Agreement on Training, Innovation and Research of the teachers of the levels prior to University and for university students’ performance of practical or hands-on activities in non-university centres publicly funded by the region of Castilla-La Mancha, between the Regional Board of Education, Culture and Sports of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha and the University of Castilla-La Mancha.

The grade in each of the parts (written and oral) must be equal to or greater than 4, equal to or greater than 5 in order to pass the course.
Total: 100.00% 100.00%
According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
The examining board will mark theUndergraduate Dissertation on a scale from 0 to 10, including a decimal point and its corresponding qualitative grade:

    0.0 - 4.9 Fail
    5.0 - 6.9 Pass
    7.0 - 8.9 Merit
    9.0 - 10 Distinction.

From the numerical mark 9.00 onwards, the examining board may propose the grade Distinction with honours. For that, the examining board will elaborate a grounded report and the Final Degree Project Committee (CATFG) will finally determine which students deserve this grade, considering their written project, their oral defense and the board's report.

If a student is not present on the date and in the place indicated, it will be assumed that the student refuses to defend their TFG and, thus, their final mark will be Absent.

If a student fails, the examining board will elaborate a report including the recommendations for the student and tutor to improve the project for its further evaluation.

The examining board may use a rubric, checklist or grid to evaluate the written project and oral defense.

Important remarks: For the written project and the oral presentation, the quality of the language employed will be considered. In fact, for every mistake of those included in the list "mistakes to avoid" (see Moodle), the student will miss 0.25 points in the corresponding activity up to a maximum of 3 points (12 mistakes)

Students must compulsorily attend the meetings with their tutor for the elaboration of the undergraduate dissertation. Students' absences without a documented, justified caused can make the tutor not pass the project for its oral presentation before the board.

If new regulations or instructions applicable to UCLM, especially derived from COVID-19, were passed during the academic year, the eGuides will be amended accordingly, even gathering the Undergraduate Project Committee if necessary.

***Plagiarism policy: See article 9 of Students Evaluation Rules.
  • Non-continuous evaluation:
The same rules as 'continuous assessment' apply.

Specifications for the resit/retake exam:
The evaluation criteria for the extraordinary examination session will be the same as the ones established for the ordinary examination session.

The examining board may use a rubric, checklist or grid to evaluate the written project and oral defense.
Specifications for the second resit / retake exam:
The evaluation criteria for the special or final examination session will be the same as the ones established for the ordinary examination session.

The examining board may use a rubric, checklist or grid to evaluate the written project and oral defense.
