"Cultural diversity and social inequalities in health" is a subject that belongs to the compulsory training of Nursing Degree. This subject permits to analyze and reflect on nursing care, considering new sociocultural perspectives which have to be applied in health caring, in a multicultural society.
Understanding health/illness process is not an homogeneous issue, considering that there are social, cultural, politic and economic factors which have influence in diverse conceptual approaches. Moreover, health and illness are social constructions that go further than the biomedical model, and that have to be analized from the sociocultural and historical facts.
This subjects is related with other subjects about Nursing care, contribuiting with knowledge and skills related with cultural effects on patients, healers and self-percieved health. It is mainly related with subjects as Public Health Introduction, Health Psicology, Community Nursing, Ethics and Legislation, and Health services Managing.
In this subjects, undergraduates will have competencies to analyze the differences of atention/ health/illness processes, that come from cultural diversity and social inequalities and their effects as well, as inequality, discrimitation and social exclusion, and margination. Contents in this subject will prepare undergraduates to carry out nursing interventions culturaly appropiates.
