3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

The framework of the subject is focused in the comprehension of the Geographical objet like a discipline that pays attention to territorial characters of the Spanish country and the Spanish region named Castilla-La Mancha. The use of methods and concepts of Geography pretends to create a real image of the current world, in order to analize their characteres and factors of spatial organization. This subjets pays attention to socioeconomic variables and changes connected to global processes, dispersión of production, new industrial activities, production specialization, changes in agricultural activities, transformations in rural areas, modifications in communication networds, concentration or descentralization of activities, new relationships countryside-city or internal city organization. The sylabus are organized using critical judgments and plural approachs.

The subject is connected to other subjects of the Humanities and Social Studies, like Geography and Enviroment,Geography and Society, Regional Geography of the World, Geography of Globalization, Geography of Contemporary City, Perception and Interpretation of Geographic Reality. However, it is not compulsory to have previously past these subjects for foreing students.

  • Unit 1: The physical environment as a support for human activities.
    • Unit 1.1: The physical environment: relief; water; soils; vegetation; environmental problems.
    • Unit 1.2: Protected areas: national parks and other environmental protection laws
  • Unit 2: Current characteristics and problems of population
    • Unit 2.1: Dinamic of population: evolution of population; spatial distribucion of population; population and settlement; natality, mortality and migrations.
    • Unit 2.2: Population structure; the effects of migrations; territorial effects of unequal demographic dynamics.
  • Unit 3: Economic activities
    • Unit 3.1: Agricultural activities: historical determining; space uses; land ownership structure; U.E. integration effects and CAP refform.
    • Unit 3.2: Industrial activities: regional localization factors; institutional policies; the rol of the local industry.
    • Unit 3.3: Service activities and territory: traditional servicies; public services as a revitalizing elemens; effects of infrastructure networks; the queternary sector.
  • Unit 4: Cities and spatial planning
    • Unit 4.1: Issues of the cities: Urban morphology and tipology of cities; evolution of capital cities at different scales.
    • Unit 4.2: Importancy of rural spaces: nwe land uses in rural areas; rural development programs; the rol of tourism and local developmente in inland and rural areas.
    • Unit 4.3: The organization of territory: Spanish urban system and Castilla-La Mancha urban system

Class Attendance (theory) [ON-SITE] Lectures E02 E05 E06 E15 G02 1.04 26 Y N The teacher, during the theoretical sessions of the subject, will transfer to the students in an organized way the contents collected in the program of the subject.
Class Attendance (practical) [ON-SITE] Case Studies E05 E12 E15 T12 1.2 30 Y N The student must carry out practices related to general processes at the level of Castilla-La Mancha, which will be in relation to the topics of the program of the subject. These tasks will be performed in the assigned classroom, in the computer room or individually.There is also a fieldwork exit, mandatory (depending on the COVID-19 circumstances), where the student can apply the contents of the subject in previously identified areas of study.
Analysis of articles and reviews [OFF-SITE] Reading and Analysis of Reviews and Articles E15 0.6 15 Y N The student will conduct directed readings of articles. As a complement to the readings there will be tutoring sessions in which the doubts arising with the texts or with the theoretical and practical sessions of the subject will be attended. The tutorials will be individualized or in a small group. The schedule will be advertised in the teaching guide of the degree. Mechanimos will be articulated to carry out the tutorials for those students who can not attend the scheduled sessions.
Writing of reports or projects [OFF-SITE] Self-study E05 E15 T12 1.2 30 Y N The student will have to use the material used in the master classes and in the practical classes. Each student will have to present, in writing, all the practices included in the specific topic. This activity will be non-face-to-face. The delivery of the practices will be made according to the calendar exposed by the professor. The internships are related to the autonomous work done by the student.
Progress test [ON-SITE] Assessment tests E05 E06 E12 0.08 2 Y Y The student will have to present the autonomous work, which will include most of the evaluation, which will include theoretical and practical aspects of the subject.

The internships are related to self-employment, which will be tutored by the teacher. Those who have opted for non-continuous evaluation must also submit additional materials agreed with the teacher.

This test is aimed at those students who have opted for the non-continuous evaluation and those who have not passed the continuous evaluation.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).
