There is no prerequisite to curse this subject. It is recommended to have completed and passed the subjects of Geography and Environment and Geography and Society that are taught in the first course. These subjects are basic compulsory subjects, so that concepts that have been assimilated during this course will have been developed. It is also recommended that the student be familiar with computer programs, for which a certain skill is required in the handling of word processors and Excel spreadsheets, as well as browsing throught the Internet.
Contribution of the subject to the curriculum: The subject Geography of Globalization belongs to the branch of knowledge of Social Sciences. It is ascribed within the Department of Geography and Territorial Planning whose presence in the curriculum gives it to have basic, compulsory and optional training subjects. In this case, this subject has a compulsory character, with a teaching load of 6 ECTS credits. This subject is proposed together with other subjects of this same compulsory nature with the aim that the student feels the bases for a complete formation within the degree and that he completes his Geography training.
Relationship with other subjects: The subjects taught by the professors of the Department of Geography and Land Use Planning have a logical sequencing throughout the Degree in Humanities and Social Studies. During the first year of the Degree one begins by imparting some subjects with a fundamental character. This type of training is completed with other compulsory subjects that are taught in this course and in the following ones. The knowledge, skills and abilities acquired in this subject will have its application in other subjects of later courses. Its instrumental, methodological and conceptual nature makes it useful for the rest of the subjects of the degree, be they basic, compulsory or optional. The actuality manifested in the contents taught in this subject can be linked to other subjects of the degree for which other departments are responsible with a presence in the Faculty of Humanities, such as, History through their subjects of Current World History or History of Contemporary Spain, History of Art through History of Contemporary Art or Modern Philology with Enlargement of English Language with Academic Purposes, or the same Department of Geography and Land Use Planning, such as Geography of the Developed World and Inequalities, Geography of the Contemporary City or Latin America in the World System.
The practices that are carried out during the development of this subject serve as a complement to the taught theory. These are considered a fundamental part, since it is necessary to have acquired a series of skills and abilities in the use of information and communication technologies to produce information from various statistical sources or use an appropriate language orally and in writing. They will make use in the future working world, be it as a teacher, archivist, librarian or personnel assigned to research projects or international cooperation.
