3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

The subject focusses its attention to identify basic characters for the global comprehensión of world space, and to diferenciate, to clasify and to understand the most important elements that personalize large territorial units in the global scale. The subject focuses the interest on the region concept; on global organization patterns of different region in globalization context; on principal geopolitic units and on their more relevant features. In the sylabus the subject analyzes and discuss main characteristcs that homogeneize and make singular each of the large regions in the world. Physical determinants, demographic characters, productive specialisation, and the regional relationships act like the core ideas to run the sylabus of the subject, using plural and critical views.

This subject is connected to other subjects in the degree in Humanities and Social Studies: Geography and Enviroment; Geography and Society; Geography of Globalization; Geography of Contemporary City; Landscape and Territory; Contemporary History. however foreing students don`t need previos subject's knowledge.

Course learning outcomes
Description
Comprehension of the interrelationship between society and land in the current changing world.
Analysis and comprehension of the landscape like a territorial and cultural heritage.
Comprehension and valuation of territorial imbalances and inequalities through the usage of geographic information collected from different sources.
Identification of characteristics of different regional espaces with the use of cartography.
Ability to collect, critically analyze and interpret information from various sources and transmit it in an organized and reasoned way, orally and in writing.
Capacity to understand the role of the countries in the international relationships sistem.
Capacity to value the interrelationships between Castilla-La Mancha, Spain and the rest of the countries in the world.
Comprehension of the diversity, the multiculturalism, the interculturalism and the knowledge of different cultures through the analysis and interpretation of the current reality.
Development of the autonomous work to develop the learning process and lifelong training.

  • Unit 2: North America: the territory. Demogrhapic structure. Reasons for American power. new control manners.
  • Unit 3: demographic resources and the social system of work organizationJapan: the physical environment as a controversial factor for development. Reasons for economic growth. Umbalanced regional structure.
  • Unit 4: China: singularities of the territory. Social and demographic changes. Economic sectors and the important role of the agriculture. The effects of the economic revolution. Regional imbalances.
  • Unit 5: Middle East: unavourable environment. Oil economy. Unmbalanced regional structure. Regional levels of conflict.
  • Unit 6: Latin American: singuraties of the territory. The regional population. The urban structure. The main economic activities.
  • Unit 7: Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The territory. Demographic and economic heritage of Soviet Union. Regional structure.
  • Unit 8: India: the territory. The role of agriculture. Internal structure and foreing influence. Regional imbalances.
