3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

In a globalized world like the present scenario, the knowledge of the international environment is a compulsory requirement for those that will operate in the economic arena. This subect intends to offer a general overview of the major issues, the traits, problems and dynamics of the International Economics. The goal is to understand how the world economic works in a continous changing context. At the same time, the subject considers the analysis of the current problems of the international economic policy aimed at increasing the people living standard levels. 

The study of the international environment is based on the economic models studied in the previos subjects: "Introduction to Economics" and "Intermediate Microeconomics". Moreover, the subject International Economics intends to interpretet the economics facts in the light of those economic models and the evolutionary dymics offered by the subject "Economic History". Additionally,  the use of the data techniques studied in the subjet "Business Statistics" is required. 

International Economics gives a reference framework for the study of the subject "Spanish Economics" in third course. Finally, it is the starting point to study the economic integration processes that are forming around the world with special attention to the European integration process, which will study widely in the optional subject "European Union Economics".

E07 Understand the economic environment as a result and application of theoretical or formal representations on how the economy works. To do so, it will be necessary to be able to understand and use common handbooks, as well as articles and, in general, leading edge bibliography in the core subjects of the curriculum.

E12 Understand the role of institutions and agents in economic and social activities
G02 Ability to understand the ethical responsibility and the code of ethics of professionals working in the field of economics. To know and apply the legislation and recognition of human rights and questions of gender equality.
G03 Develop oral and written communication skills in order to prepare reports, research projects and business projects and defend them before any commission or group of professionals (specialised or non-specialised) in more than one language, by collecting relevant evidence and interpreting it appropriately so as to reach conclusions.
G04 Ability to use and develop information and communication technologies and to apply them to the corresponding business department by using specific programmes for these business areas.
G05 Capacity for teamwork, to lead, direct, plan and supervise multidisciplinary and multicultural teams in both national and international environments so as to create synergies which benefit organisations.

Course learning outcomes
Description
Search for information in order to analyze it, interpret is meaning, synthesize it and communicate it to others.
Know the analytical models and techniques of the economic and legal environment currently faced by enterprises, with special attention given to the search for opportunities and the anticipation of potential changes.
Know the main theories and approaches of economic analysis to be able to explain the behavior of economic agents at the micro and macroeconomic levels, as well as the imperfections that may arise in different sectors as a consequence of the economic process.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    Ordinary call: The final exam is taken into two parts. The first part will take place in January after the first semester. The second part will be take place after the second semester in the date set in the academic calendar. Those students who passed the first part of the subject in January will only take the second part of the exam. The rest of them will take the whole exam containing the topics of the entire subject. The ongoing assessments will be summed up to the final mark when this final mark is higher than 2,8 out 7.
  • Non-continuous evaluation:
    The assessment will be done through a final exam which will include all the specific tests needed to evaluate all the competences.

Specifications for the resit/retake exam:
In the extraordinary call all the skills and contents will be rescheduled through a final exam. Concerning the competences included in the ongoing assessment, its reschedule must be said to the Professor before the oficial exam calendar starts and it will be done through specific tests and exercices included in the final exam.
Specifications for the second resit / retake exam:
In this call is only rescheduled the final exam. The mark to pass the subject will be 5 out 10.
