2. REQUISITOS PREVIOS

Enough level of English to be able to follow the subject in this language (equivalent to at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)

 

3. JUSTIFICACIÓN EN EL PLAN DE ESTUDIOS, RELACIÓN CON OTRAS ASIGNATURAS Y CON LA PROFESIÓN

3.1. Justification of the Course in the Sport Science Degree :

The Degree in Sport Sciences is structured in a way that the students, once conclude the studies, acquire competences for the teaching of the physical activity and the sport in ruled educational environments, in sport training, sports management, as well as for the promotion of healthy physical activities. Inside the Sport Sciences Degree it can be found the Module #11: “Management, Health and Recreation” composed by 7 optional courses: Physical activity and Health, Sports for Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity, Prevention of Injuries and Primary Care, Physical Activity on Skates, Physical Activity in Bicycle, and Physical Activity and Sport in Local Entities. All the mentioned matters are offered in 4th year.

The “Physical Activity and Health" course (6 ECTS) brings near to the student one of the environments with an increased social demand. Gyms, clubs or companies of sport services for all the publics, represent an important professional opportunities for the future Graduate in Sport Sciences. Along the course the student will know and will be able to deepen in aspects related with the energy balance that at the present moment are very demanded in the current society and that converge in individuals of different ages and different levels that pursue to maintain and/or increase their health levels, through the improvement and/or maintenance of their physical and mental levels, contributing to a better quality of life and reducing the possible risks of suffering illnesses.

3.2. Relations with other courses:

Physical Activity and Health is related in some ways to many of the mentioned courses that compose the Module 11 “Management, Health and Recreation”. Also, in a more specific manner, it has a relationship with the following courses: "Health and Physical Activity" (2nd year), Exercise Physiology I and II (1st and 3rd year), Physical Conditioning (3rd year), and Training Principles (3rd year).

3.3. Relations with future job:

While studying this course the student should be able to obtain the necessary competences in order to guide, teach and transmit, to the different social sectors, the importance of carrying out a healthy lifestyle habits along the human being vital cycle, inside the educational environments, in health care systems, and also in leisure and of recreational environments. Starting from a personal experience the student will obtain relevant knowledge for its personal daily life, as well as for its future professional job.

A.05 Desarrollar habilidades de liderazgo, relación interpersonal y trabajo en equipo, independientemente del sexo, credo, raza y discapacidad.
A.06 Aplicar los conocimientos adquiridos al ámbito laboral a partir de situaciones en donde el alumno deba resolver problemas específicos y elaborar y defender argumentos.
A.07 Desarrollar hábitos de excelencia y calidad en el ejercicio profesional aplicando los derechos fundamentales, los principios de igualdad de oportunidades y los valores propios de una cultura democrática. Asimismo actuar conforme a los valores éticos en relación a la salud de los usuarios y al respeto sobre el medio ambiente.
A.08 Comprender y utilizar manuales comunes, así como artículos y, en general, bibliografía puntera en materias vinculadas a la actividad física y el deporte, con el fin de elaborar informes o resolver problemas específicos que se les planteen.
A.09 Desarrollar habilidades de aprendizaje necesarias para emprender estudios posteriores con un alto grado de autonomía.
B.01 Conocer y comprender el objeto de estudio de las Ciencias de la Actividad Física y del Deporte.
B.02 Adquirir la formación para la investigación científica básica aplicada a la actividad física y al deporte en sus diferentes manifestaciones.
B.03 Conocer y comprender los factores fisiológicos y biomecánicos que condicionan la práctica de la actividad física y el deporte.
B.11 Promover y evaluar la formación de hábitos perdurables y autónomos de práctica de la actividad física y del deporte.
B.12 Planificar, desarrollar y controlar el proceso de entrenamiento en sus distintos niveles.
B.14 Evaluar la condición física y prescribir ejercicios físicos orientados hacia la salud.
B.15 Identificar los riesgos que se derivan para la salud, de la práctica de actividades físicas inadecuadas.
B.16 Planificar, desarrollar y evaluar la realización de programas de actividades físico-deportivas.

-To identify the healthiest and more effective strategies for the maintenance of a correct energy balance.
-To understand the differential aspects of the energy balance in different population groups according to their differential characteristics.

Criterios de evaluación de la convocatoria ordinaria:
50%: Final Exam: short question test + brief questions (there could be some "excluding" question that are compulsory to be able to pass the exam).
25%: Search, read and present an oral presentation of a scientific document related to the course (previously accepted by the lecturer)*.
25%: Attendance and good use of practical lectures (minimum of 70%) and submit a Final Report of all the Practical Lectures*
Others (practical proposals, individual reports, conference attendance as Manz Fitness International Congress Lisbon 2018, health&fitness related courses, others). NOTE: the "other activities" can be both "free of paid" and also "including payment" but in any case both options are posible and give acccess to the Max of 10% extra.
* Compulsory to be able to be presented to the final exam
