2. Pre-Requisites

It is essential to have passed Foreign Language and its Didactics II: English.

3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

The society of the 21st century demands an education that guarantees the competent handling of at least one foreign language. Two significant measures in this regard are the
inclusion, in the second cycle of Early Childhood Education, of the teaching of another foreign language and linguistic programs, within the framework of European educational policies, which have been steadily supporting multilingualism.
The degree in Early Childhood Education has to respond to these needs, which have also become evident in the job market in recent years. The mention in foreign language addresses the training of Early Childhood Education teachers in two directions: linguistics, with the acquisition and consolidation of linguistic skills at the B2 high intermediate independent user level, deepening in the phonetic and grammatical fields, and methodological, through a professionalizing review of the latest trends in language teaching-learning at this educational stage.
Communication Skills in English Language I, along with Communication Skills in English Language II, reinforces the five communication skills: listening comprehension, speaking,
oral interaction, written comprehension and written expression.
The UCLM officially recognizes the B2 level for students who take this mention.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
To make an average with the rest of the tests, in the final tests a grade of 4 or more must be obtained. These tests may consist of written and oral exercises. The subject will be passed with a 5 out of 10.
    All mandatory activities are recoverable.
The continuous assessment student may change to the non-continuous modality when he has not participated during the teaching period in assessable activities that together represent at least 50% of the total assessment of the subject. If a student has reached that 50% of evaluable activities or if, in any case, the class period has ended, they will be considered in continuous evaluation without the possibility of changing the modality.
  • Non-continuous evaluation:
Calls for progress tests will be announced in time so that non-attendance students can try to attend. For students who cannot attend class regularly and for whom information about their work throughout the course is not available through progress tests, the final mark will be that obtained in the final tests. The subject will be passed with a 5 out of 10.

Specifications for the resit/retake exam:
The evaluation criteria will remain in force. No note will be saved beyond this call.
Compulsory activities will be recoverable through the corresponding tasks in the final tests of extraordinary call.
Specifications for the second resit / retake exam:
