2. Pre-Requisites

The Academic Comission of the Master will assign to the student a mentor who will be a doctor with teaching in the Master program. The Master's thesis will be evaluated once the student has passed all the remaining lectures of the Master program and therefore has all the necessary ECTS to obtain the Master's degree, except those corresponding to the Master's thesis itself.

The Master's thesis may be presented and defended either in English or in Spanish.

3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

The Master's thesis implies the realization by the student of a project, memory or original study and individually, under the supervision of a mentor, in which the knowledge acquired in the Master's degree is integrated and developed. This Master’s thesis will allow to assess the knowledge and skills acquired by the student, taking into account the specialized nature of the degree and its professional orientation. Through the completion of the Master’s thesis, the student has the opportunity to deepen the study of a topic of interest.

The Master’s thesis must be oriented to train for the search, management, organization and interpretation of relevant data in their subject of study, to issue judgments and reflections on relevant aspects of social, scientific, technological or ethical, and facilitate the development of a thought and judgment critical, logical and creative according to the master level.

CE05 To know the main psychological aspects of patient care in need of long-term care and family members.
CE06 To detect and manage basic and complex emotional processes, psychosocial problems and situations of emotional risk (chronic illness, death, grief), family members and of the professionals themselves, as well as identify the need for specialized intervention and make an appropriate referral to other professionals.
CE07 To establish an effective communication with patients and families using appropriate counseling skills, emotion management and coping strategies for self-control and effectiveness in situations of marked emotional impact.
CE10 To know how to apply the most appropriate multivariate statistical procedure to complex data in the health and social care field.
CE11 To know how to prepare a pertinent, rigorous and feasible research proposal that responds to a priority research problem in the health and social care field.
CE12 To know the main situations of disability, dependency and the need for long-term care based on the main stages of the individual's development: childhood and adolescence, adulthood and old age, as appropriate.
CE13 To identify the main difficulties in the treatment and care of patients with disabilities and dependency, facilitating changes in lifestyle.
CE14 To solve problems related to chronic and dependency processes by guaranteeing, through methodologies and instruments within the health field, the dignity and security, privacy, autonomy and cultural diversity of people.
CE15 To plan care, apply specific nursing techniques and evaluate the results for the promotion of well-being, comfort and quality of life for people with disabilities, dependency and need for long-term care according to the needs of the patient (adult and/or paediatric), primary caregiver, family, community, and other health and social agents.
CE16 To acquire communication skills and approaches to families in order to establish recommendations to improve the situation in which the child is.
CE17 To integrate nursing care both in the institutionalized and in the home settings of patients with mental health problems and people with cognitive impairment, for its prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
CE18 To know the therapeutic potential of physical activity in the prevention of situations of disability and dependency and in the maintenance of functionality and personal autonomy, especially in older people.
CE19 To acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for nursing care oriented to the sick and their families in advanced and/or end of life situations that contribute to an increase in their quality of life and better coping with the death process.
CE20 To know the bioethical principles and their implication in decisions at the end of life.
CE21 To acquire skills to develop roles as trainer of formal and/or informal caregivers of people with disabilities, dependency, and in need of long-term care.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    The final numerical mark will be between 0 and 10, according to the current Spanish legislation in force. The Master¿s thesis will be evaluated by a Tribunal in accordance with the Regulations on the elaboration and defense of Master's Final Dissertations of the University of Castilla-La Mancha. The Tribunal will take into account the criteria of scientific quality, written and oral expository clarity, capacity for debating and argument defense.
