3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession

Nursing professionals must know some conceptual bases to provide quality care with the appropriate use of not only resource management, but also applying legislation on aspects of dependency and participate in decision making, understanding the economic and social repercussions of their actions

Course learning outcomes
Description
The student will be able to identify applicable legislation in different situations of disability, dependency and long-term care.
The student will be able to perform nursing assessments in situations of suffering, disability or dependency using specific tools and frameworks of the nurse discipline.
The student will be able to identify the basic management, programming and evaluation tools of health organizations.

6. Units / Contents
  • Unit 1: Disability and Dependency from a Legal Perspective: The Legal Response to Disability and Dependency. Applied legal terminology. The legal protection of disability and dependency at the international level.
    • Unit 1.1: Spanish legislation on dependency and disability: the protection of disability in the Spanish Constitution. Law 51/2003, of 2 December, on equal opportunities, non-discrimination and universal accessibility for disabled people. Law 39/2006, of 14 December, on the promotion of personal autonomy and care for disabled people
    • Unit 1.2: Legal principles regulating persons with disabilities in the health field: Autonomy in decision-making: consent and prior instructions. The lack of autonomy in decision-making: consent by representation. The process of incapacitation and other legal guardianship processes.
    • Unit 1.3: Socio-health policies on dependency and disability: Socio-health needs related to disability and dependency. The social and health care system in Spain. The coordination and integration of care levels. Dependency assessment scales
    • Unit 1.4: Management of care resources in dependency and disability: Management models in social health centres. Person-centred comprehensive care. Patient safety. Coordination of the multidisciplinary team. Administrative and material resource management

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    The ordinary evaluation will have a final numerical score between 0 and 10 according to current legislation. It is necessary for the student to participate in at least 80% of the sessions in order to pass the course. The assessment of theoretical work and the resolution of problems and/or cases will be the 20% of the grade, and the 80% the score obtained in the final test with multiple choice questions.

In this summon, the student will have to examine the contents of the subject not approved in the ordinary summon.
