2. Pre-Requisites
They have not been established, although it is recommended that the student enrolled in this subject have previous training similar to that offered by the Degree in Humanities and Social Studies of the Faculty of Albacete or another degree from the branch of knowledge of Arts and Humanities.
3. Justification in the curriculum, relation to other subjects and to the profession
The subject is part of the general plan of the Master aimed to train researchers in the area of ¿¿Humanities, specifying in equipping the student with the methodological tools, the competences, and the contents that allow him / her to know and understand written, printed and illustrated text as a fundamental source of work for Latin Philology and for Art History in its many facets.

Description
Manage the main sources and research tools related to the History of illustration and graphic art. Face the critical study of illustrated editions and take part in research projects in this area of ¿¿study
Carry out small works about the related contents
Be able to understand and analyze relevant data related to the transmission of texts and the states of writing and printing
Be able to understand and critically evaluate specialized works in the study areas of the module
Recognize the main graphic techniques and catalog graphic material

  • Unit 1: Written culture: circumstances and problems of the transmission of ancient texts
    • Unit 1.1: Main facts in the transmission of ancient texts
    • Unit 1.2: Study of medieval manuscripts
    • Unit 1.3: Initiation to textual criticism. Phases of it. Typology of errors
    • Unit 1.4: Collation of manuscripts. Stemma codicum and the critical apparatus
    • Unit 1.5: Basic notions of Latin paleography
    • Unit 1.6: Typology of ancient, medieval and Renaissance medical texts: genres and composition resources
    • Unit 1.7: Greco-Latin medical lexicon
    • Unit 1.8: Selection of texts of this type, manuscripts and printed matter, and their analysis from the philological perspective and textual criticism
    • Unit 1.9: Approaches to research of this type of texts and main lines of research followed in their study
  • Unit 2: Written culture: history of the illustrated book and its techniques
    • Unit 2.1: The illustration of texts before the printing press: illuminated manuscripts
    • Unit 2.2: The birth of the printing press: The great printers: Aldo Manuzio (1449 / 50-1515); Christoffel Platin (1520-1589)

The course is divided into two thematic blocks; the 9 subtopics (4 sessions; 16 hours) of block 1 will be taught by professor Teresa Santamaría and the 7 subtopics (3 sessions; 12 hours) of block 2 will be taught by professor Fernando González Moreno.

According to art. 4 of the UCLM Student Evaluation Regulations, it must be provided to students who cannot regularly attend face-to-face training activities the passing of the subject, having the right (art. 12.2) to be globally graded, in 2 annual calls per subject , an ordinary and an extraordinary one (evaluating 100% of the competences).

Evaluation criteria for the final exam:
  • Continuous assessment:
    Carrying out practices and assistance with use (minimum 80% attendance)
    The student who cannot attend classes regularly will be given the opportunity to present a written work that will be led by one of the two teachers who teach the subject. The criteria for presentation and evaluation of the work will be specifically exposed through virtual campus or tutorials.

    If necessary, any modification or adaptation necessary in the teaching guides as a consequence of any change in the teaching or evaluation model derived from the evolution of the pandemic will be documented through an addendum.
    How to change from continuous to non-continuous evaluation: any student may change from one system to the other if he/she has not fulfilled up to a 50% of the continuous evaluation tasks during the academic period. If a student has already fulfilled the 50% of the evaluable tasks, or if the lesson period has already finished, he/she will not be allowed to change the evaluation system.
  • Non-continuous evaluation:
    For students who cannot regularly attend class (minimum 80% attendance), two compensatory written assignments (one with each teacher of the subject) will be established on a topic to be decided with said teachers. The development of the works will be guided by tutoring or a similar system.

    If necessary, any modification or adaptation necessary in the teaching guides as a consequence of any change in the teaching or evaluation model derived from the evolution of the pandemic will be documented through an addendum.
