En el texto se abordan los aspectos más importantes relacionados con la Dirección y Gestión de la Producción, abarcando con profundidad y detalle, a diferencia de otros textos en esta temática, diversos problemas de gran complejidad. Todo ello se consigue con "Una aproximación mediante la simulación". Inicialmente se describe lo que ha pasado en el sistema productivo en España a lo largo de la historia, haciendo especial hincapie en lo acontecido en estos ultimos años. Esto es clave para ayudar al lector a entender de donde se viene y de que manera. Además describe la situación actual, y con ello se pretende mostrar cuál es la tendencia en la evolución del sistema productivo español a lo largo de los próximos años. Seguidamente se describe con detalle lo relativo al producto y a la producción, que conforman la base del contenido del texto.
